A wake-up call for coastal communities: It’s time for a retreat from the shoreline, of which the Chesapeake estuary has some 11,000 miles. Historically, millions of people have sought to live as close to that shoreline as possible , few communities are doing adequate planing to meet the imminent challenges of restraint, retreat and adaptation to living on the edges of a rising tide. Artist Chris Jordan alit on Midway Island in 2009 to photograph the albatross that populate this small spot of land in the middle of the Pacific. Little did he know that he was embarking on a wildly challenging eight-year odyssey to tell the story of these remarkable birds. Exquisitely beautiful, immensely touching and ultimately inspiring, Albatross illuminated how our everyday material lives intersect with the natural world, even at the far corners of the globe (97 minutes)
